Young musicians from throughout Germany perform at the showcase Young Music Scene Concert at Berlin's famous Quasimodo music hall. The concert is part of the Berlin Festival, and is the climax of nationwide competitions that take place from August onwards.

MaerzMusik is a Festival of Contemporary Music in Berlin and takes place from 16th March to 25th March 2012. The program of MaerzMusik 2012 presents a selection of new works. Scheduled up to March 25 on 10 festival days are a lot of events and works by contemporary composers, including German and world premieres. In 2010 there were World premieres by Klaus Huber, Salvatore Sciarrino, Thomas Kessler, Olga Neuwirth, Beat Furrer, Mela Meierhans, Isabel Mundry, Johannes Schöllhorn, Lucia Ronchetti, James Clarke. The programme is due to be released in mid-January 2012.

Berlin's Fête de la Musique celebrates the beginning of summer with an amazing variety of live concerts on around 90 stages throughout the city. All music genres are well represented, including world music and jazz, and all performances are free. The whole city takes part in a colourful welcome to the summer - together with towns in more than 100 other countries, where the fête takes place on the same day.

Since 1992 every summer the Gendarmenmarkt in the heart of Berlin turns into a great concert arena. In July 2012 for the 21st time the musical carousel at the Classic Open Air-Festival starts spinning again at Berlin Gendarmenmarkt.

It is one of the most beautiful places in the whole of Europe and therefore is a stunning scenery for musical performances. The concert series has become an attraction for national and international visitors and artists. The musical palette reaches from German over Italian opera, operetta and musical to crossover productions with classics of pop, soul, swing and jazz. Especially popular are the productions where light, laser or fireworks have been built into the dramaturgy.
