1. Berliner Festspiele

2. Polish Cultural Institute

3. British Council

4. The Finnish Institute in Germany (Finnland-Institut in Deutschland)

Established in 1994, the Finnish Institute aims to encourage the co-operation between Finland and Germany in areas of, for example, culture and technology. 5. The House of World Cultures (Haus der Kulturen der Welt)

Focusing on contemporary culture in Africa, Asia and Latin America, the 'Haus der Kulturen der Welt' under its 'Pregnant Oyster' roof (the former Congress Hall) hosts dance, music, theatre and film events that truly warrant the tag 'multi-cultural'. 6. The Indian Culture Center (Indisches Kulturzentrum)

The centre offers traditional Indian music concerts and dance performances (many of which are free), the Kulturzentrum is also involved with readings and film seasons in other venues in Berlin. 7. Japanese-German Centre Berlin (Japanisch-Deutsches Zentrum Berlin)

8. Bulgarian Cultural Institute (Bulgarisches Kulturinstitut)

The Bulgarian Institute has been in the German capital since 1962 and aims to build cultural bridges between Sofia and Berlin. By organizing special cultural events and exhibitions, it presents and promotes Bulgarian cultural life, its history as well as providing information on the country's present economic situation. 9. The Czech Centre (Tschechisches Zentrum)

The 'Tschechisches Zentrum' is there to answers questions regarding culture, politics, economics and tourism. 10. Berlin Institute of French Culture (Institut Français de Berlin)

The French Institute and the neighbouring Cinema Paris are an oasis of all things French in the middle of the bustle of Ku'damm. French lessons, a 'Mediathek' housing a library of 13,000 books, a resource centre, a video and CD library and an extensive cultural program (from concerts to lectures and book readings) are all to be found here. 11. German Language and Cultural Institute in Berlin (Goethe-Institut Berlin)

The Goethe Institute really needs no introduction but the new premises (opened in 1999) may provide a few surprises. While learning German you can make use of terminals for e-mail, a fax machine and the community room. In addition the Media Centre gives you access to computers, a video library, language cassettes and CDs, and a range of self-study materials.
